Our Story

How Flow Was Born

It began with a husband watching his wife navigate the deep frustration and self-doubt of breastfeeding. Determined to support her, he set out to build a solution.

Clinical research quickly revealed a universal pain point: across every study, the #1 reason mothers stopped direct breastfeeding was, “I didn’t know if my baby was getting enough.” Guesswork bred anxiety.

As engineers, we first had to decode the biology of the system. We looked at breastfeeding through a scientific lens: the mother as the natural source, and the baby acting as an incredibly smart, intuitive biological “pump”. To map this interaction, we built a prototype with a transparent tube and advanced sensors to measure the infant’s unique vacuum pressures.

The tube was strictly meant for internal research and development data. But during clinical testing with hundreds of families, something extraordinary happened.

Mother after mother suddenly put down their phones, looked down at their babies, and gasped at the clear tube: “Wow! I actually have milk!” Within seconds, their shoulders dropped. The visible tension evaporated.

That was our epiphany. Mothers didn’t need clinical numbers, they needed visual reassurance.

This insight changed everything. Partnering with expert IBCLCs, we perfected Flow — not to track or analyze, but to act as a living window into the breastfeeding journey. For the very first time, we made milk transfer visible in real-time.

We realized that to transform this experience, we didn’t need to count ounces, we just needed to remove the blindfold. In fact, when we asked mothers how they felt using the final version of Flow, the overwhelming response was: “I feel like I have enough milk”. Without measuring a single drop, Flow replaces anxiety with awe, giving mothers the ultimate gift: the confidence to trust their bodies and keep going.

Who We Are

By integrating advanced technology with clinical insights, Kaizen developed and launched its first product: Flow. Flow is an educational tool that provides real-time visualization of milk transfer during breastfeeding. Designed as a bridge to successful breastfeeding, it uses visual biofeedback to reassure mothers, reduce anxiety, and support the continuation of the direct breastfeeding relationship.
